system-config problem [ubuntu 10.04]

I was pleased to find a new way to install my HP-1018 with a usb connection on a desktop running ubuntu 10.4 Lucid. So far HPLIP fails.

After following the install steps i received this message when starting system-config:

gerard@gerard-desktop:~$ sudo system-config-printer
[sudo] password for gerard:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py", line 84, in <module>
import cupshelpers, options
File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/cupshelpers/__init__.py", line 45, in <module>
from cupshelpers import \
ImportError: cannot import name Device

Now when I use the gui System--> administration-->printers, the programs hangs then gives-up.

What's causing this? How do I fix it?

Still printer does not print--fine in windows.

Thanks in advance.

Not my problem. I would ask your distro. Or uninstall then install system-config-printer.
