Whence came the firmware?

I am working on getting my HP-1020 working in FreeBSD. Initially I was having trouble, but once I got the special foo2zjs-supplied firmware loaded, things seem to be making progress. So thanks!

I'm just curious - where does this firmware come from?
In foo2zjs' source I see '(c) Copyright Hewlett-Packard 2005'

So I guess these firmwares are supplied directly by HP?
But where do they come from?

I haven't found anywhere else on the web that provides them other than foo2zjs.
