distorted letters [solved; don't use gs 9.00!]

Hello!

I am using a JP LaserJet Pro CP1025 and recently updated my system from openSUSE 11.3 to 11.4.
The printer used to work just fine, but now letters appear distorted if they are, for example, inside a table. Here is what the CUPS test page looks like:


Note, however, that regular text is printed correctly.

Does anyone know what might cause that problem and how to fix it?

Ghostscript 9.00 is broken with landscape fonts. Don't use!

Use gs 8.72 or before OR gs 9.01 and after.
