Now in Fedora-18 too, really need to print ... now this
I tried the guide on the other thread (copied xxx.prn to /dev/usb/lp0). It all works but system still sees the printer as unavailable. Says "waiting for the printer to be ready"

terminal outputs resemble the ones on this thread
This is serious

EDIT:
----
Contrary to the above my '# grep foo2zjs /var/log/messages' show that the drive is successfully loaded.

What is happening?

Did you do this:
$ wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
$ tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
$ cd foo2zjs
$ make
$ su
# make install
# make install-hotplug  # IMPORTANT!
???

Do this:
$ usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0
GET_DEVICE_ID string:
MFG:Hewlett-Packard;MDL:HP LaserJet 1020;CMD:ACL;CLS:PRINTER;DES:HP LaserJet 1020;FWVER:20050309;

$ cd foo2zjs

$ foo2zjs-wrapper -P -z1 -L0 -X16 testpage.ps > xxx.prn

$ ls -l xxx.prn
-rw-rw-r-- 1 rick rick 92623 Feb 23 11:12 xxx.prn

$ ls -l /dev/usb/lp0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 180, 0 Mar  6 10:10 /dev/usb/lp0

$ cp xxx.prn /dev/usb/lp0
{printed fine}
What does that say?

Works on my Fedora 18.

The above steps also work on F19 (beta), and similar to my previous experience in F18, I still don't get a print from within the OS (Say for example, evince)

Printer Status says: Waiting for Printer to be available. The Queue builds up with jobs that are either pending of processing. So, while the core parts of the driver may actually work (from your example), it still fails at GUI level and nothing gets printed.

I found a workaround for udev to load driver:
Hp Laserjet 1020, F18 - Loading Firmware By Udev

It works under Fedora 18, 19 and 20.
