Hi,

I have a HP LaserJet Professional P1102 and i want to use it over lpd. I pluged the usb-cable in my printer and my router and in the router i called the queue

lasernet

, so in cups i entered

lpd://192.168.2.1/lasernet

. This should be fine so far, since it worked with my old ink printer this way.
I have gentoo and cups installed, but not hplip. When i don't add anything extra, there is a

HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Foomatic/foo2zjs-z2 (en)

driver in the cups menu, i guess the one from gentoo, which doesn't work. When i install the foo2zjs-driver from this page, i have two times the same entrie that says

HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Foomatic/foo2zjs-z2 (en)

and both don't work.. When i plug the printer directly into the usb-port of my computer, cups doesn't recognize the printer. Please Help!

Is wrong. Use:

socket://192.168.2.1:9100

are you sure? I want to use the lpd protocol. When i tell cups to use

socket://192.168.2.1:9100

it says Status:

Processing - "Connecting to printer..."

and than doesn't continue.
When i tell cups to use

lpd://192.168.2.1/lasernet

it says Status:

Processing - "Spooling LPR job, 56% complete..."

And then doesn't continue. Same on the Mac Book of a friend of mine when he uses the lpd://... host
He got the printer to work when he connected it to usb and installed some firmware that was shipped with a Mac-Driver from HP

Try this:

$ cd foo2zjs
$ foo2zjs-wrapper -P -z2 -L0 testpage.ps > xxx
$ nc 192.168.2.1 9100 < xxx
{Printed fine on a P1102 running Fedora 14}

And report back.

ok,

for now i got it to work via usb. I had to install hplip though, so that cups would recognize the usb-printer (maybe because of this CD-drive thing?) and after that i could change the driver to

HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Foomatic/foo2zjs-z2 (en)

and it works great.
But i still don't understand why it doesn't work over lpd. When i've got some time, i will try to connect it to windows and deactivate the CD-drive shit. Maybe that will do the job

PS: Thank you very much for writing the driver! It works great! But why do the distros don't use it? It would be a bit more convenient if one could update the printer driver the same way as the rest of the system.
