Oki C3300n - Needing to press "on line" button [solved; need to press online]

Hi. My OKI C3300n works great with this driver. But when one of the toners is "low" (which can even be 40% left), the printer doesn't automatically go ahead and print the page. I have to press the "on line" button to get it to print.

Does anyone know of a way to override this? Perhaps in some part of the configuration?

Kudos to Rick for the driver, in any case.

Thanks,

Arnold Robbins

Rick,

Thanks for the pointer. I did see that when I was doing some searching earlier, but it's not what I want to do.

It's OK that the printer has toner low and shows the error when you connect to it etc.; I want the printer to go ahead and print anyway. It seems to me (haven't tried it in a while) with the printer driver that comes with the printer on Mac OS X 10.5, and the printer driver from MSFT for Windows 7, that the printer does not require manually pushing the "on line" button to make it go ahead and print.

I can try this on Mac OS X and report back for sure. If it works, would a network trace (with, say, wireshark) be helpful in understanding the protocol to the printer? Is this something you'd be willing to work with me on off-line from the forum? (I do have plenty of coding and debugging skills. :-)

Much thanks!

Arnold Robbins

Hi. I sent the results in private email. Did you get them? Do I need to post to the forum in addition / instead? (Direct mail is going to be faster...)

If you want I can try using the native Mac OS X driver, and / or the Windows 7 driver as pulled down from Microsoft, to see how they behave, and then I think I could do a packet capture with wireshark if indeed those drivers are able to make the printer print immediately without waiting.

Please let me know what else I can do.

Much thanks!

Arnold

Here is what I get running the command. I am not sure what I want. I guess I will try to do some traces to see if I can determine that.

Thanks.

Arnold

Hi. I did some more investigation. First, the Mac driver doesn't make it continue printing, so I misremembered.

I spoke today with the local Oki support people, and they claim it simply isn't possible to force it to continue printing if the toner is low but not empty. Having played with the settings on the printer, this seems to be the case.

So - apparently it's been a wild goose chase, for which I apologize.

I am sorta P.O.'ed at the stupid design of the printer, but I guess you get what you pay for. Overall, except for this stupidity, the printer is not unreasonable, but if I had it to do over again, I probably would have spent a little more money and bought an HP.

Thanks,

Arnold Robbins
