Bad photo printing [gentoo]

Hi,
I installed the foo2hp driver for the HP2600n Color laser printer, everything is working but color photo printing is bad quality.
A scan of the picture printed with Windows :
And with foo2hp (Gentoo linux) :

I think this problem is known (I saw people talking about "aligator-skin" on some forums). I tried to change some things in the ppd, but nothing worked.

Is a solution available ?

Thanks

Ben

From INSTALL:
    * Well Tempered Screening (WTS) works with ghostscript 8.54-8.60+.
      So if you want BEST COLORS, you'll have to install gs 8.54 or
      better if you don't have it.

        $ gs --version
        8.15.2

        $ wget "http://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/GPL/gs860/ghostscript-8.60.tar.gz";
        $ tar zxf ghostscript-8.60.tar.gz
        $ cd ghostscript-8.60
        $ ./autogen.sh
        $ make
        $ su                            OR $ sudo cp bin/gs /usr/bin/gs.foo
        # cp bin/gs /usr/bin/gs.foo

Thanks for the answer ! But it doesn't work..

I tried installing gs 8.57 (gentoo package) and it made no change.

Then, I tried gs 8.60 (compilation from source like in your example), and it made no change, too.

The colors are a little bit better (less red) with these other versions of gs, but the pattern is still visible.

gs --version gives me 8.57
gs.foo --version gives me 8.60

Where else could the problem come from ?

Ben

Do you install the latest foo2zjs from source?
Do you choose ICM profile hpclj2600n-1.icm?

Colors are great here and hp2600n.

Try this:

$ foo2hp2600-wrapper -c abbybday.ps >abbybday.hp2600
$ nc 192.168.1.12 9100 <abbybday.hp2600

Files (click to download):
abbybday.ps
abbybday.hp2600

Scan at 150dpi (1/4 resolution) on hp2600, canonscan LIDE 70:

With your file (abbyday.hp2600) it works like it should (great colors) but if I do the conversion with foo2hp2600-wrapper -c abbybday.ps >abbybday.hp2600 it doesn't work as it should.

$ foo2hp2600-wrapper -V
$Id: foo2hp2600-wrapper.in,v 1.55 2007/10/22 16:52:39 rick Exp $
$Id: foo2hp.c,v 1.38 2007/07/15 14:31:55 rick Exp $

I'll try to remove completely foo2hp2600n and so on and reinstall.

Now, if i convert abbybday.ps into abbybday.hp2600, it works great. But if i print to a file from gthumb for example (generates a .ps file), and then convert it, the problem is here again. (when I print directly to the printer from the program, the problem is there, too)

This would mean it is a "postscript-generation" problem, right ?

From Changelog:
2007-10-25      Rick Richardson <rick.richardson@comcast.net>
        * Modify: foo2zjs-pstops put it before "%%Page: 1 1"

I installed the freshly downloaded foo2zjs.tar.gz, but foo2hp2600-wrapper -V still gives me
$Id: foo2hp2600-wrapper.in,v 1.55 2007/10/22 16:52:39 rick Exp $
$Id: foo2hp.c,v 1.38 2007/07/15 14:31:55 rick Exp $

Is it normal ?

I'll try to print this evening.
