paper size on laserjet 2600n does not fit [NO problem]

Hi!

I tried out today (19.09.2008) on Ubuntu 8.04.1 the great foo2hp from http://foo2hp.rkkda.com/ with a HP Color LaserJet 2600n following the install instructions there. It seems to work perfect with only one parameter making problems:

The page size. I enabled "A4" for "Page Size" through the CUPS Interface (and also Color), but the printed test page doesn't fit on the page. It seems to be bigger. But everything (as I know) seems to be correct: the paper used, the paper position, the paper size configured for the printer and even the values printed on the test page are correct:
-----
Page Size:
8.27x11.69in
210.0x297.0mm
Lower Left:
...0...
...0...
Upper Right:
8.27x11.69in
210.0x297.0mm
Resolution:
600x600dpi
23562x23562dpm

Interpreter Information:
PostScript: Level 3
Version: 3010 (861)
Product: GPL Ghostscript
Serial #: 42
-----

I used the provided .ppd from the tarball.

I will be very happy about any hint to fix this problem or what I could try to limit the possible error reason(s)! Donation for the project for success promised.

Thanks,
Andreas

I forgot to mention, that I skipped in the installation manual (ubuntu part) the step "sudo system-config-printer", because I have no desktop environment. I made the installation and the configuration over

The printer settings:

It looks good, yes, but the margins, where are the margins?

Here for comparison the scanned output of a HP LaserJet 3600 DN:

Margins are ~100 dots and unprintable.

HP 3600 is WRONG!

Measure with a ruler! HP 2600n is correct. HP 3600 is NOT correct.

So the CUPS test page is no reference and automatically fitted to the desired page size? Ok, I didn't know this.

I know that the used paper size in the HP 3600 is not "A4", I only wanted to show the outer margin lines which where there printed, but not on the HP 2600 output.

My understanding now is, that everything works as it should. Thanks for your quick and helpful answers. 25$ donation was sent out now.

Bye

You should file a bug report on the HP 3600 driver!!!

For the HP 3600 I used "Foomatic/hpijs" as driver, not foo2hp. I dont know where to report the problem at the moment, may be I could find out and investigate sometime more in this direction later...
