Ubuntu 9.10 stopped printing on HP P1505

Hello,

I updated my Ubuntu laptop to 9.10, purchased a HP P1505 and was able to install it using foo2xqx drivers as directed by INSTALL file. This was 1 week ago; the printer was working. Today I tried to print and no way, the jobs appear in the printing queue and they remain there. This was tried with OpenOffice docs and drivers' test page. I tried printing from Windows Vista and it's working.

I guess this was caused by Ubuntu software updates that I made a few days ago (I updated all packages without reading the packages list). I uninstalled printer driver and foo2zjs (also I did a apt-get remove foo2zjs and it worked, what makes me think that the Ubuntu system update updated the driver from the Ubuntu repository). After uninstalling all I followed the instructions in the INSTALL file as when installing the first time. But this time I'm not able to get the printer working; the problem persists.

===========================

Also I tried usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 but there is not such device. Instead there is a /dev/usb/hiddev0 but usb_printerid doesn't work with that (Error: Invalid argument: GET_DEVICE_ID on '/dev/usb/hiddev0')

Driver is connected to hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P1505?serial=CA5704S. I tried connecting to "usb" URL but got no success.

Thanks in advance,

Did you read the INSTALL file?

CUPS USB NOTES
--------------
    If you are using the USB port, then the URI should be:
        usb:/dev/usb/lp0
        usb:/dev/usb/lp1
    OR
        usb://Samsung/CLP-310%20Series
        usb://Samsung/CLP-310%20Series
        usb://HP/Color%20LaserJet%20CP1215
        usb://HP/Color%20LaserJet%202600n
        usb://HP/LaserJet%201000
        usb://HP/LaserJet%201005
        usb://HP/LaserJet%201018
        usb://HP/LaserJet%201020
        usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1005
        usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1006
        usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1505

    Don't use hp://<whatever> because that is for hplip (a closed source,
    proprietary driver).

Better yet, get rid of it altogether.
$ sudu apt-get remove hplip

Then, reboot.

Thank you Rick, it worked! I see I didn't read well the INSTALL file.
Thanks for this good driver!
