[SOLVED] Cannot print to HP P1505N [Solaris 10]

Hello,

I have an HP P1505N that I am trying to add to a CUPS server running on Solaris 10.

So far, I have:
+ downloaded and installed the foo2xqx driver onto the server via the instructions in the INSTALL file,
+ copied the PPD file to /cups/share/cups/model and to /cups/etc/cups/ppd,
+ specified the HP JetDirect (socket://ITQ3:9100) backend

The printer shows itself in the CUPS web interface as being online and accepting jobs and tells me that it is using the correct driver [HP LaserJet P1505 Foomatic/foo2xqx (recommended)]. When a job is submitted, however, the printer's status changes to 'Print job sent...waiting for printer to finish.', but it never does. The job will eventually be moved to the Completed Jobs page even though it never actually printed!

I also tried using the ipp backend, (ipp://ITQ3/ipp:631) but when a job is submitted via ipp, the status changes to "recoverable: Network host 'ITQ3' is busy; will retry in 10 seconds..." The retry interval automatically increases but again, the job never prints.

A copy of the CUPS error.log can be seen here: http://sleepyedb.pastebin.com/f7b34da4b , and the job I submitted is Job 2010.

Thanks in advance, and I will be happy to assist in any way I can.

Something is wrong with Solaris 10 CUPS. No "foo2" lines in the error log.

Sorry. Ask your distro for advice.

Typical:
$ root grep foo2 /var/log/cups/error_log

rick-

Sorry for my delay in replying...for some reason I wasn't notified when you posted. Most likely due to our lovely 'spam' filters. :P

Thanks for posting the typical error.log output. Do you think that the absence of foo2 from my error.log means that the foo2 driver is not being used by CUPS at all? If not, why does it show up in the web interface as the listed driver for the printer?

Rick,

You were right that there was a problem with my CUPS installation. By comparing your error.log with mine, and examining the foomatic-rip.log I realized that my foomatic-rip binary was failing because it was looking for ghostscript in the wrong place. It turns out the execpath statement in cups/etc/foomatic/filter.conf did not contain the /usr/sfw/bin directory which is where gs is located.

Once I added this directory to the execpath statement and restarted the cups daemon, my HP P1505N is printing like a champ.

Thanks,

sleepy
