P1006 - Raspberry Pi, test page fails [solved; need usblp kernel module]

Hello,

I am using the current Debian for my Rpi and tried to install my p1006 printer for use with cups over my local network.

Here ist what I did up to now:

$ sudo apt-get install cups
$ sudo usermod -a -G lpadmin pi

$ wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
$ tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
$ cd foo2zjs

$ make

$ ./getweb P1006

$ su
# make install
# make install-hotplug
# make cups

I then condigured my printer in cups, it is now installed with the foo2xqx driver on "usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1006?serial=AC17TAR" as it says in cups. However when trying to print a test page, nothing happens! What else can I do?

Thanks in advance!

What does this say:

# usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0

???

It says: "Error: No such file or directory: can't open '/dev/usb/lp0'"

Actually, the /dev folder does not contain a "usb" folder. I manually changed the URI in the cups config from "usb://HP/LaserJet%20P1006?serial=AC17TAR" to "sb://HP/LaserJet%20P1006" but there was no difference.

I once read that on powering the printer a red light should flash indicating the firmware loading procedure. This does not happen.

Power down and up the printer.

# usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0

What does that say???

Both show nothing at all!

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ dmesg | grep usblp
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ lsmod | grep usblp
pi@raspberrypi ~ $

Install the usblp module, then!!! I.E. on a fedora 16:

$ locate usblp.ko
/usr/lib/modules/3.6.11-4.fc16.i686/kernel/drivers/usb/class/usblp.ko

Thank you! I have no idea how to compile a kernel (new to all this) but I will try ;)

If you have 3.2.27+:

sudo wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5684427/archives/usblp.ko -o /lib/modules/3.2.27+/kernel/drivers/usb/class/usblp.ko
sudo depmod -a
