Print quality after Cartridge replacement [solved]

Hi.

I have a p1005, printing under cups, which is printing faintly after a replacement cartridge. Is there any way to compensate by adding more saturation to the driver?
Perhaps a ghostscript option? About the only thing I can fiddle in cups is resolution, and it doesn't print on low res.
This is the o/p from usb printerid.

1) Take it out, shake it, reinstall. Usually, this will work.
2) Get a replacement cartridge from HP or other *quality* supplier.

Done that - no significant change :-(

The circle on the right in the cups test page is nearly invisible except for the centre and the print is very light.

So, I'll follow 2) above in future. The thing I got was not cheap, and wass branded Print Mate. - that's hardly an ad!
