HP LaserJet 1500 on Mac ?

Is it possible to have an HP LaserJet 1500 work on a Mac ? I see it should work with the foo2oak driver, but there's nothing about foo2oak on the install.osx file.
My LaserJet 1500 that doesn't work on my new Mac because HP's (very old) driver doesn't support Intel Macs.
I'm familiar with building/compiling packages on Linux, so if there are a few adjustments to port from Linux to Mac I should be able to get it done.
Did anyone have success or unsuccess with a LaserJet 1500 on Mac, or any printer using foo2oak on Mac ?
Any hints ?
P.S. For an extra challenge, after I get it working on my Mac, I'd like to install the driver on my mother's Mac without having to install XCode on her's Mac. I'll probably have to reproduce the behavior of "make install" (which is usually quite easy) or configure it to install on the remote machine.
