I am using Ubuntu 6.10 and The Samsung CLX-3160FN only prints in Mono. I did follow the directions, but I'm not having much success printing in color via CUPS.

Did you do:
$ sudo gnome-cups-manager
[set Color Mode = color]
$ sudo make cups <--- This avoids the bug
Ubuntu has a bug with gnome-cups-manager.

Much as I hate to commit thread necromancy, I seem to be having the exact same problem. Just got (yesterday, in fact) a Samsung CLX-3160FN and was quite disappointed with the Samsung-provided driver. The print quality with foo2qpdl is definitely better, but, as noted above, it's solely black and white. I've restarted cups (multiple times) while ensuring that it's set for Color.

Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 and the printer is network-attached.

As a side note, I would guess that Gutsy (which is due out within the week) has the most up-to-date version of foo2zjs/foo2qpdl. I don't know if that'll cure my problems, although I'm definitely hopeful.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Color works here on Ubuntu 7.04.

Do you do "make, make install, etc."

Don't use the distro foo2zjs. Use mine.

Try http://localhost:631, your login/password

Click:
Printers -> Set Printer Options -> Color Mode -> Color
Set Printer Options

To answer the previous post - yep, used the one that I fetched directly from here.

And, as for the suggestion about going directly through the web interface...

IT WORKED!!!

I'm now *ecstatic* about how the test page looks. For some reason, it looks like the cups-manager printer options is at least semi-hosed.
