Hello,
I have done all the installation step for my HP Laserjet 1000 on ubuntu 9.04 and I can't have /dev/usb/lp0.
When my printer power off, I heard that the driver is send, but I can't print anything...

Can someone help me ?

Remove hplib. It is a closed source, proprietary driver.

Follow all instructions, including "CUPS USB NOTES" in the INSTALL file.
$ make
$ ./getweb 1000
$ sudo make install install-hotplug cups

 Power down then up the printer.

$ sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0
What does that say???

Great! It worked for me after removing the hplib.
Thank you RickRich!
