Hi,

I am an archlinux user and I installed AUR package done for your drivers
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/foo2zjs/

The package depend of another package foomatic-db-foo2zjs : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/foomatic-db-foo2zjs

It also exists in archlinux official repository a foomatic-db package :
https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/foomatic-db/

foomatic-db-foo2zjs installs foomatic-db and removes all foomatic-db files you include in your sources. The goal is to avoid 2 problems.
The first at package install. As foomatic-db package have installed files already, when installing foo2zjs package it comes a conflict with existing files.
The second problem at uninstall. Uninstall foo2zjs deletes foomatic-db files included in and it brokes foomatic-db package integrity.

As foomatic-db includes the same files that you put in directory foomatic-db of your sources, don't you think you could remove thoses files ?

I think for a lot of linux distro, it will avoid problems and conflicts with foomatic-db package.

Bests and thank you for work.

I am working on getting my HP-1020 working in FreeBSD. Initially I was having trouble, but once I got the special foo2zjs-supplied firmware loaded, things seem to be making progress. So thanks!

I'm just curious - where does this firmware come from?
In foo2zjs' source I see '(c) Copyright Hewlett-Packard 2005'

So I guess these firmwares are supplied directly by HP?
But where do they come from?

I haven't found anywhere else on the web that provides them other than foo2zjs.

Thanks

Hi,

I have a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2430DL.

I would like to get the printer to run properly on 64 bit Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) and 64bit Crunchbang Linux, Waldorf (#!), both of which are based on Debian Testing.

I think understand - and will follow - the instructions on the front page and in the INSTALL file about downloading and installing foo2zjs from this site rather than using the Debian package.

Reading these announcements:

http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?63,3189
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?63,2890
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?63,1813

It seems that if I install any version of gs from 8.63 or earlier or from 8.65 to 8.72 then I should be OK.

However, both LMDE and #! already have gs 9.05 installed.

Therefore, I assume that before I can install - for example - gs 8.72, I have to uninstall gs version 9.05 first.

My questions are:

i) How do I do that without getting into dependency hell?

ii) Is something else likely to be broken by replacing gs 9.05 with an earlier version?

iii) is there a way to have both versions of gs installed without causing untold mayhem?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I was able to install Xcode 3.2.6 on Mac OS X Lion. I could also install Macports and run "sudo port selfupdate" successfully. But when I run any of the following "sudo port install" commands, I get the following error:
Error: The installed version of Xcode (3.2.6) is too old to use on the installed OS version. Version 4.1 or later is recommended on Mac OS X 10.7.

Hi,

I ended up on your site while looking for a driver for my printer, of cause Xerox are not interested in supporting Linux and after much messing about I have found out its a GDI printer. I have tried all of the drivers from your site but with no luck.

I did a packet capture of a test page from Windows to this printer and noticed that it uses HBPL as the printer "lanuage". Again I was brought back to your site as hbpldecode is included in the tar ball.

Does this mean that HBPL based printers might be supported in the near future? I am happy to try things out and provide any information required to try and get my printer working, I am not a developer so I'm not much good for cutting code though.
Thanks,
Just one suggestion: It would be convenient if the tarball name was decorated with some kind of version number. This would make it easier to keep track of the different versions.

I have a question. I do not want to use CUPS, I want to use Standard Unix Printing "lpd" instead. It should work fine, as /dev/ulpt0 is recognized and works, but I have a question. How should I define this "foo2zjs" filter for "lpd"? I mean, what should I specify for "if" Input Filter, "of" Output Filter, ... in the /etc/printcap Printing Capabilities file?
Thank you in advance

BTW, I was not smart enough to read your install.osx file first, so I figured it out myself. I used Darwinports for ghostscript and got the DMG for Foomatic-RIP from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomatic.
Compile went flawlessly. Used CUPS to install and configure. The only bump I hit was that MS PowerPoint ignored the CUPS printing options (e.g. color). Fixed that by changing the options in PowerPoint's print options.
Thanks a bunch.

First I want to thank the programmers of this driver, who make it possible to use my HP Laserjet 1018 with Ubuntu.
Unfortunately it took a few hours for me to install the driver according to the instructions on http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/INSTALL. The reason why it didn't work was that the http_proxy-variable in my shell was not exported. So "./getweb 1018", which uses the wget command didn't work. I think it would be helpful to add a hint to the INSTALL file to export the proxy server for people who use it

Which kernel version ? (1 reply)

Medical equipment attached to a linux box came with some kind of customized-RedHat9 version to wich I don't have access, passwords and stuff, no console access... Very few kinds of printers are predefined, most of which are not produced any more, and can't be found on the market.
It's runinng on a 2.4.* kernel version, so it would be nice to know: is the present foo2zjs compatible with this kernel ? It's the only issue that bothers me, because i have idea to solve te problem with access restriction, and will share with readers o this forum :
1. I plan to attach this HDD as a slave to a regular machine whit a regular Linux.

2. Copy and gunzip+untar the script to /slavedisc/somedir/with/foo2zjs.

3. Add this lines of a shell script to (for example) /etc/rc.boot, or similar :

######### Begining of example lines ############
cd /somedir/with/foo2zjs
make
make install
make install-hotplug
make whatEverIsNeeded
cd
# Following is to guarantee that these lines will be executed only once :
mv /somedir/with/foo2zjs /someother/foo2zjs/directory
######### End of example lines ############

4.Connect the HDD back to it's original box.

This way the driver will be installed during the boot. So, as i mentioned, it's the kernel 2.4.* compatibility issue that worries me...

The second solution that came up is :
1. Install original Red Hat 9 on some computer
2. Isntall foo2zjs on that one
3. Make a tarball with all the needed files
4. Copy all of these files to the destination disc.
But there is a problem, i dont know which files are nesecery, and where are all of them copied during the install (which goes where) ?

If foo2zjs is not compatible with this kernel, could someone please give me advice how to solve this situation ?
Is there a workng RPM package with foo2zjs for Red Hat 9 ?
Which files go to wich directory during the instalation ?

Installing foo2zjs without internet access (3 replies)

Hello all, I'm wondering how to install foo2zjs without having internet access. Here's the scoop:

I'm setting up an HP1018 on an older machine running Xubuntu 7.04. Problem is, the machine is sitting off in the bush in Zambia, they barely have electricity, no phone lines and no internet access. Is there some way of doing the installation without internet access? Any ideas?

Much obliged,

I can't wait to learn what stupid mistake I made to cause this...

FreeBSD 6.3-stable, gnome2

Followed foo2zjs download and install instructions carefully. After unpacking and cd to foo2zjs directory, $ make command rolls out a series of complaints reading: "Makefile", line 9: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 11: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 42: Missing dependency operator

and so on, until the process stops with the statement:

make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue

I feel like a real shlub not being able to find a fix for this. Can someone give me advice?

Thanks in advance.

I am new to Linux using ubuntu 7.10... I have a CLP300, but the problem is not related to.

I have first install the driver using the classic "install new printer" from Ubuntu printer panel (Yes I know you said it is wrong, but I did not know you at this time)... I also have installed later the Samsung drivers thinking I risk nothing to try because they are Samsung... Their printed output looked really worse compare to your... Thus, searching internet discover to you... Then I uninstalled the Samsung driver that removed both drivers (those from Ubuntu and Samsung)... Thus, the following problem only occurred after all :

During the fist instructions, no problem, then typing make, I obtain this :

:~/foo2zjs$ make
#
# Dependencies...
#
# ... OK!
#
cc -O2 -Wall -o foo2zjs foo2zjs.o jbig.o jbig_tab.o
/usr/bin/ld: cannot open output file foo2zjs: Is a directory
collect2: ld a retourné 1 code d'état d'exécution
make: *** [foo2zjs] Erreur 1

problem with IsCUPS in foo2zjs.c (2 replies)

In the latest (as of tonight/morning, december 9th) foo2zjs.c, the following code seems broken on my system. This happens in 32 and 64 bit OpenSuSE (10.2, and 10.3), Debian, FreeBSD, and Ubuntu.

    if (getenv("DEVICE_URL"))
        IsCUPS = 1;

The reason I know it doesn't work, is this is never true (as the output never occurs)

    if (IsCUPS)
        fprintf(stderr, "PAGE: %d %d\n", pageno, Copies);

IsCUPS is initialized as zero, and the only way to make it output page numbering to cups (for me anyways) is to remove the conditionals or initialize IsCUPS to 1.

I have an HP Laserjet 1020.

Am I missing something, or doing something stupid?

I downloaded the foo2zjs driver and followed the instructions however I am not able to successfully print. It is printing garbage -- perhaps raw data I'm not sure. Does anyone know if this will work with my Model and what should I try for correction?

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy. Gnome interface.

The printer is connected via LPT1. I checked the Minolta support website and they have the printer listed under legacy but do not have a linux driver avail.

Minolta Color Page Works Configuration Page shows.

Total Memory 4 MB
Firmware Version 1.24 97/04/01
LocalTalk Version = 1.21

Under PCL Menu it says:
Font Source=Internal (I'm not sure if this is correct?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
