Hi,

I've installed the foo2qpdl driver to use my samsung CLP-310 printer.
I'm using archlinux. I first tried the archlinux package, then removed it and used the method described here : http://foo2qpdl.rkkda.com/

The problem remains :
Whenever I want to print something, I have to turn off then on the printer.

I can print a job of several pages with no problem, but I cannot print several jobs on a row, I have to restart the printer every time. And those non-printed jobs are declared as successfull by cups (I see no error either in the cups log, which put as debug by the way).

According to the log, the foo2qpdl wrapper is run with these parameters :
foo2qpdl-wrapper -z2 -c -r600x600 -p2 -m0 -s1 -d1 -C10 -Gsamclp315-argyll-0.icm

I don't really know what to provide, as there is quite a lot of log and I see no error in it. It really looks as if the printer simply ignores whatever I send it after the first job.

The problem doesn't seem to come from the printer, as I didn't have this behaviour with the samsung 'unified' driver (I had other problems, obviously :) )

So, what can I provide to help debug this, if this isn't a known problem ?

Thanks for providing the foo2 driver to the community. I have bought a Samsung CLP-315 (they are really cheep lately in Greece!) and am trying to use it, but unfortunatelly the problems insist...

At fisrt, I wasn't aware of the foo2zjs package here and used the driver provided in the Samsung CD, but with the known errors (SPL-C). On my search through the internet for the problem, I discovered rkkda.com.
So, now I installed the foo2zjs package from here, following exactly the provided instructions for Ubuntu. The process ended-up with no errors.

However, when I print, I continue to get the known SPL-C error. The strange thing is that I do not get this error always, but only on certain programs: when I print from Evolution, Firefox, PDF's I get the error. When I print from opennoffice, gedit, GIMP, Eye of GNOME I can print without errors!

This is how my printer is set:

I am using Ubuntu 9.04, the ghostscript version installed is 8.70.dfsg.1-0.ubuntu3 and I downloaded the foo2zsj package from the site today!

I feel really desperate sometimes with this issue.... I will be more than odliged to any help given...

Thanks everyone in advance, happy holidays to everyone :-)

Helping a new user transition to Ubuntu linux, but after following the Ubuntu-specific instructions correctly from the INSTALL file, I have a new autodetecting printer, but it is always busy. That above is the output immediately following the installation process. I get

Error: Device or resource busy: can't open '/dev/usb/lp0'

once I attempt to run any commands.

Previously I had some success by following the steps at http://foo2qpdl.rkkda.com/fedora/clp315.html to add another copy of the printer (currently printer is not showing up after a wipe and reinstall), but it broke and would not work again (solid red light issue, system-config-printer throwing client-error-document-format-not-supported when attempting to print a printer test page, etc).

I'd like to do this correctly this time so that I don't have to try to fix it again - any advice as to what I might do better to make it work permanently? Last time it broke by said user printing out a 30 page color document, realizing that said user did not want said document (or to spend the toner for it), and removed power to the printer as the most expeditious way to prevent it. Upon restoring power, the printer failed to run.

Note - in light of what I had working before, I will reinstall by instructions again from scratch, but this time not make install-hotplug, and create a printer per the url stated above. Very good documentation in the INSTALL file, also - almost could have asked the user to do it and they would have done as well a job.

Should i use the foo2zjs or the one i'm currently using? Any help would be appreciated. It seems that you are doing a tremendous amount of work on these drivers. i hope to be able to contribute to your work.

Hi everyone

Can't setup the SAMSUNG CLP-315 USB Printer on a AMD64 box running FreeBSD 8.0-RC2 although the installation instructions from INSTALL file were followed as is.

To be more specific :

* The kernel is compiled without the ulpt device support
* Installed on the system are :
gs:
ghostscript8-8.64_7 Ghostscript 8.x PostScript interpreter
cups:
cups-base-1.3.10_4 Common UNIX Printing System: Server
cups-client-1.3.10_4 Common UNIX Printing System: Library cups
cups-image-1.3.10_4 Common UNIX Printing System: Library cupsimage
cups-pstoraster-8.15.4_4 Postscript interpreter for CUPS printing to non-PS printers
cupsddk-1.2.3_3 CUPS Driver Development Kit
gutenprint-cups-5.1.7_4 GutenPrint Printer Driver
foomatic:
foomatic-db-20090530 Foomatic database
foomatic-db-engine-4.0.1,2 Foomatic database engine
foomatic-filters-4.0.1_2 Foomatic wrapper scripts
* The installation method was followed as mentioned in INSTALL file with gmake (gmake-3.81_3 GNU version of 'make' utility)

From the dmesg message :
ugen3.2: <Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.> at usbus3

Problem
----------
Under CUPS Admin Page, when trying to add a printer, there is NO usb selection uner the "Device" section but only these selections :
-AppSocket/HP JetDirect
-Backend Error Handler
-Internet Printing Protocol (http)
-Internet Printing Protocol (ipp)
-LPD/LPR Host or Printer
of course I didn't expect a usb device (ulptx/unlptx) since the kernel is compiled without the ulpt support.

Nevertheless I have tried all the above selections in order to continue at the next page where is the 'URI Device Selection' where I am enetring
'usb:/dev/ugen3.2'

Next at the 'Make/Manufacturer page' I am selecting 'Samsung' and at the next page (Driver selection page) I am selecting 'Samsung CLP-315 Foomatic/foo2qpdl (recommended) (en)'

After that I get the 'Printer CLP315 has been added successfully' at the CUPS page.

Under CUPS Printer section I see :
CLP315

Description: SAMSUNG CLP-315
Location: Home
Printer Driver: Samsung CLP-315 Foomatic/foo2qpdl (recommended)
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: usb:/dev/ugen3.2

When I am trying to print a test page I see the ' Test page sent; job ID is CLP315-20.' message and under the CUPS Jobs section I see the above info:

ID Name User Size Pages State
CLP315-20 Test Page root 17k Unknown stopped

If I go to the CUPS Printer section I see the above message:

CLP315 "Unable to open device file "/dev/ugen3.2": Permission denied"

SERVER# cat /etc/devfs.rules
[system=10]
add path 'ugen*' mode 0660 group cups
add path 'lpt*' mode 0660 group cups
add path 'ulpt*' mode 0660 group cups

SERVER# cat /etc/rc.conf | grep devfs
# devfs
devfs_system_ruleset="system"

The users that I want to be able to print are added at the CUPS group.

Any ideas ?

Thank you in advance for your time

ps 1
From the INSTALL file at the FreeBSD section:
- Do one of these lines each time the printer is powered up:
# cat /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.dl > /dev/ugen0.1
# cat /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1020.dl > /dev/ugen0.1
# cat /usr/share/foo2xqx/firmware/sihpP1005.dl > /dev/ugen0.1
# cat /usr/share/foo2xqx/firmware/sihpP1006.dl > /dev/ugen0.1
# cat /usr/share/foo2xqx/firmware/sihpP1505.dl > /dev/ugen0.1

This is the firmware for some hp models. Do I have to do that for the Samsung CLP315 model ?(I don't believe so)

Hello!

After installing foo2qpdl on Fedora 11 I tried to print on my Samsung CLP-310N printer the CUPS test page. Unfortunately, the printer immediately spits out a sheet with this:

----------------------------------------
SPL-C ERROR - Please use the proper driver

POSITION : 0x0 (0)

SYSTEM : src/xl_image
LINE : 606

VERSION : SPL-C 5.35 11-20-2007
----------------------------------------

Creating a .prn file with foo2qpdl-wrapper -z2 and copying it to the printer in raw mode works fine.

I will try to debug the problem, but first I must understand what's the source of this error? Ghostscript? foomatic? The printer? What is "line 606" and where I can see it?

Also for some reason in CUPS printer driver selection menu I see two instances of "Samsung CLP-300 Foomatic/foo2qpdl(en)" and same for 310 and 315. However, for other models the two entries differ, one being "/Postscript" and other "/pxlcolor". Not sure if this is a error in the .xml or .ppd file and if it matters at all.

What the hey? I get no CLP's from searching here. I hope I'm in the right place!

Anyhoo, I've loaded drivers every which way, including just now the rkkda method, and I keep just getting the same old Samsung CLP-310 and -315 drivers. With these, the infamous "dark colors" problem is pretty well fixed (BLUE still looks a little dark) but I'm getting a strange situation where the Ubuntu test page shows both the GRAYSCALE and the BLACK strips contaminated with red(?) so the outcome is tans and browns instead of grays and light blacks. This shows up in printed graphics too, e.g., black locomotives are brown, and all graphics look like someone pushed the SEPIA button!

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
Thanks!

I went into the office and found that someone had bought a Samsung
CLP-310N colour laser printer because it was "real small". The
job now is getting it to work with Cups 1.3.7 and Ghostscript 8.62
running on openSUSE 11.0.

foo2qpdl: The make and make install went well, and I installed
the printer using Cups administration, declaring the PPD to be
/usr/share/ppd/foo2zjs/Samsung-CLP-315.ppd.gz . I tweaked the Cups
printer options for colour printing on A4 paper with no colour
correction, and the result, scanned at 120dpi, is visible at
http://rogerprice.org/CLP-310N-foo2qpdl-test-page.jpg . The full Cups
1.3.7 test page is visible at
http://rogerprice.org/Cups-1.3.7-test-page.jpg (sorry about the ink
smudges).

The scale is missing at the outside edge, but apart from the absence
of colour correction, what is visible is ok.

Is there a convenient way of making the page image slightly smaller so
that it fits inside the printable area?

Hi,
I am in the planning and testing phase of retiring my old Windows XP file and printer server at home and installing Ubuntu in its place.
Being somewhat of a newbie to Linux, I got pretty far already on my VMWare test, and I should be able to share any printer with Windows computers now.

Once I am done with the test phase and ready to install for real, I will definitely try this driver, and I'd definitely be willing to help out with testing, bug reports etc.

Only question:
Will I be able to share this printer to a Windows computer using Samba like any other printer, given that I have Windows drivers ready?

Thanks!

I just bought this printer.
I installed the linux driver following the instructions on http://foo2qpdl.rkkda.com/.

I can print, but I get greenish blacks in color images. I read the "CUSTOM ICC/ICM COLOR PRINTER PROFILE (ARGYLL)" section in the INSTALL file, but I´m not sure if with that tool I generate a new ICM file or if that is the one already downloaded with the "./getweb 315" command.

Using the Windows´ driver I don´t get any greenish blacks (with the same image).

What shoud I do? How can I help improving the driver? I also noticed I can´t print images directly, only inside another document, is there any log I can provide to help fix it?

Hi,

first: Thanks for your great software (downloaded today, last changes from 2008-09-24). It just works out of the box with my new Samsung CLP-310. There is a problem, however: The print out is not properly positioned on the paper. The test page printed from CUPS shows that its about 3..5mm to far to the right and 8..10mm to far to the bottom. How/where can I adjust this? Is it a problem of foo2qpdl or a ghostscript problem? Btw. I'm running Debian lenny (testing) with all package up to date. Many thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have a CLP-310, which seems to be the same as a CLP-315 (at least it is advertised as such on the printer demo page).

I managed to print with it, but I had much trouble with SPL-C errors :

SPL-C ERROR - Including corrupted Header Data

POSITION : 0x0 (0)

SYSTEM : src/xl_image

LINE : 811

VERSION : SPL-C 5.35 11-20-2007

By messing around with fooqpdl-wrapper, I tracked down that the problem is related to paper size : with letter, it works, with a4, it fails with the previous error.
I didn't try with many other sizes yet but at least with one other it also fails.

I tried to peek in the wrapper and found the paper values seem somewhat inconsistent (foo2qpdl wants 9 for a4, but the wrapper says 2). Changing this didn't help, however.

Hi,
I use your driver with a custom "testing.icm". But printing most documents gives the following error:

SPL-C ERROR - Including Corrupted Header Data
Position: 0x0 (0)
System: src/xl_image
Line: 811

Am I doing anything wrong?
