Hi Rick,

I am a Linux user of a Oki C3300 Color Printer, which needs your driver.
I am using the networked version, so no access via USB.

In my opinion the best way to access this printer via Ethernet is to use
internal LPD spooler of the printer.

You can simply check this with nmap, the port 515 is open, or you can
enable it in the WEB frontend.

So in Cups the queue looks like this:

lpd://192.168.178.20/C3300-DBE0A6

IP adress differs, if you are using dhcp or fixed IP.

C3300-DBE0A6 is the printer-name.

With this setting it is possible to print out in very few time.

THX

Hello,

I've posted long ago. Now, I'm interested in helping you develop the driver for HiperC protocol. I have understood that you gave up this task. It would be nice if you provided me some information on how to reverse-engineer this protocol to continue it's development in my spare time, it's perfectly legal in my country, of course.

I currently have a C3300n printer.

Thank you.

Hi,

apparently foo2hiperc also works with the C3100. I used the C3200 PPD file, I don't really know the differences between C3100 and C3200, but it works well enough for a first try.

I had already given up on this printer, but now I dug it up once again, and only a lucky googling made me find this driver. It's unfortunate the printers that actually work well under linux are not listed in openprinting.org (foomatic?).

I added an entry for the C3100: http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Oki-C3100

Would it be a bad idea to add the other supported printers into the DB? I don't have those, but I can add some basic stubs about the others.

Thanks to Rick Richardson for the good work.

Trying to install on a fairly clean copy of opensuse 10.2, I get this:

h12@linux:~/drivers/foo2zjs> make
make: *** [zjsdecode.o] Error 1
h12@linux:~/drivers/foo2zjs>

(The previous .o to .c files converted without problems; it gets stuck on this one, and I've given up re-extracting the .gz for every "make" try).

The same .gz file installed without a hitch on the same computer, under opensuse 11 (but the oki C3200 printer refuses to print; cups says "USB printer not connected" ...)

I'm at a loss to explain why either would happen.

The same .gz file installed without a hitch on another computer under opensuse 10.2, but as the printer is elsewhere, I had no way to test if your foo2hiperc driver actually did anything (like print, just to take an example completely at random), cos suse's Yast won't show printers which aren't physically available.

If you have a clue what needs to be done, I'd be very happy to test all and any suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi,

I am working on an account that needs to centralize print managment away from Windows print spoolers and we are having trouble finding a UNIX or batch accessable transformation engine for pdf to HiPerC for the Oki C5500N printer. The foo2hiperc package would do the trick but the extra-ordinary size of the generated color pages is a show stopper.

I downloaded the OKI Windows XP printer driver and generated a print to file using the customers PDF test file. This generated a 333 K file for a single full color page. "foo2hiperc" on the other hand generates a 15,000 K file for the same page.

I am almost sure I know why this is happening given the way the transformations are being set up but that is not particularly usefull.

The real question is, are you or anyone else reading this aware of a method of generating HiPerC on a UNIX platform that can create a reasonable sized payload?

Thanks in advance.
p.s. Kudos on the integration. Those are some of the best shell scripts I've ever seen. If everyone could write sh like that perl and java might never have been invented.
