[P1505] How to write custom printing values to the PPD file? (6 replies)

Hi all,

Some programs have printing dialog without a "custom printing" option. Writing custom printing values to PPD file, will make those programs support extra paper size.

The PPD file of HP P1505 doesn't contain a "16K" paper size, and I add the following lines to it:
*PageSize w522h737/16K 184x260mm: "%% FoomaticRIPOptionSetting: PageSize=Custom"
*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting PageSize=Custom: "-pCustom.522x737 "
...
*PageRegion w522h737/16K: "%% FoomaticRIPOptionSetting: PageSize=Custom"
...
*ImageableArea w522h737/16K: "Unknown"
...
*PaperDimension w522h737/16K: "522 737"

It partially work, and I can't find where to set paper margins, which place should it be set? ImageableArea ?

I've noticed the driver(from foo2xqx) for HP P1505 doesn't support a paper size option of "16K".
Is there any way to support this paper size?

ok this one is driving me nuts

everything works, until I try and print anything via postscript thats in landscape, it chops the page in two, and prints portrait

sending the same ps file to another printer (also gs powered) is fine, prints landscape etc without any issues.

the setup is:

cups 1.4.2
gentoo linux
ghostscript 8.70
foo2xqx (downloaded from your site jan 27)

and no, the gentoo package was never installed
any ideas?

Hello,

I updated my Ubuntu laptop to 9.10, purchased a HP P1505 and was able to install it using foo2xqx drivers as directed by INSTALL file. This was 1 week ago; the printer was working. Today I tried to print and no way, the jobs appear in the printing queue and they remain there. This was tried with OpenOffice docs and drivers' test page. I tried printing from Windows Vista and it's working.

I guess this was caused by Ubuntu software updates that I made a few days ago (I updated all packages without reading the packages list). I uninstalled printer driver and foo2zjs (also I did a apt-get remove foo2zjs and it worked, what makes me think that the Ubuntu system update updated the driver from the Ubuntu repository). After uninstalling all I followed the instructions in the INSTALL file as when installing the first time. But this time I'm not able to get the printer working; the problem persists.

Hi

I am a bit confused although I got my 1505n working. First of all, I have used the foo2* packages included in my kubuntu 8.10. I know the author encourages not to use them buy I prefer not installing software not included in the standard repositories to keep the system "clean" (unless it is strictly necessary). My first question would be why the author does recommend not using the foo2* packages included in distributions.

As the 1505n was not in the printer list I got by the printer manager gui included in kubuntu I thought the ppd file was missing. I discovered the ppd was there but it was compressed (/usr/share/ppd/foo2zjsHP-LaserJet_P1505.ppd.gz) . I uncompressed it and manually selected it when I was asked to give the model of my printer.

Everything worked fine and I can print using my LAN without problems. How is this possible ? I have not sent the firmware to the printer in any way (unless it get done automatically)

Finally I want to than the author (I plan donating) as I understand he is also the author of the foo2* packages included in Kubuntu.

I'm trying to print to A4 Envelopes and it would be nice to not have not play sizing games to get this to work. I can easily create the proper page size in OOO Writer but I've been unable to get this to print correctly given the printer paper options. Is there a method to allow the printer to use custom paper sizes, or to define A4 envelope so that the printer is expecting this?

[SOLVED] Cannot print to HP P1505N [Solaris 10] (3 replies)

Hello,

I have an HP P1505N that I am trying to add to a CUPS server running on Solaris 10.

So far, I have:
+ downloaded and installed the foo2xqx driver onto the server via the instructions in the INSTALL file,
+ copied the PPD file to /cups/share/cups/model and to /cups/etc/cups/ppd,
+ specified the HP JetDirect (socket://ITQ3:9100) backend

The printer shows itself in the CUPS web interface as being online and accepting jobs and tells me that it is using the correct driver [HP LaserJet P1505 Foomatic/foo2xqx (recommended)]. When a job is submitted, however, the printer's status changes to 'Print job sent...waiting for printer to finish.', but it never does. The job will eventually be moved to the Completed Jobs page even though it never actually printed!

I also tried using the ipp backend, (ipp://ITQ3/ipp:631) but when a job is submitted via ipp, the status changes to "recoverable: Network host 'ITQ3' is busy; will retry in 10 seconds..." The retry interval automatically increases but again, the job never prints.

A copy of the CUPS error.log can be seen here: http://sleepyedb.pastebin.com/f7b34da4b , and the job I submitted is Job 2010.

Thanks in advance, and I will be happy to assist in any way I can.

Hi,
To the best of my ability I have installed the drive for the HP P1505 printer but after I print once it will not print again. If I use command line and look at lpstat the print job stays active...even after printing. If I then cancel the job I can then go onto printing another job - which, after printing, I have to cancel. How can I fix this?

Thanks

I just want to thank the author of this driver for saving my ass.

We are a mixed GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows shop, so when our office printer broke I asked that the replacement not be a Windows-only printer. I agreed to the HP LaserJet 1505n because HP's description of the printer (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/3435666.pdf) said that it was supported by GNU/Linux. I didn't find the printer listed by CUPS in Fedora core 6, but I supposed the PPD file would be on the drivers CD.

Imagine my surprise when the drivers CD contained Windows and Mac drivers, but nothing about GNU/Linux, and no PPD file. I tried pretending it was an HP LaserJet Plus, but no joy. I searched the HP web site, but there was no information about how to get the printer working under GNU/Linux. I was about to call HP customer support (which probably wouldn't have helped, they know only what is on the web site) when Google led me to this driver.

I installed the driver on my workstation, and it worked perfectly. I gave the URL to our network guy, who installed it on the office server so anyone can use our nice new printer.

Thank you for saving my ass. I would have looked really bad if the printer I agreed to hadn't worked with most of our PCs.
