Problem w/6110N on openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 [solved; use ghostscript 8.70] (2 replies)

Had problems getting the printer to work after I installed the x86_64 version, found that the Xerox driver had empty x86_64 directories. After some Googling I found this project, f002zjs. Looks promising.

I followed the instructions on the main page: http://foo2qpdl.rkkda.com/
Downloaded, unpacked, ./getweb 6110, make, make install, yast2 printer
(JetDirect/Sockett 9100, IP address, A4)
No errors.
But the print job is just stuck.

I read the message on Ghostscript 8.64 being broken with color prints. My ghostscript version might have this problem:
I have ghostscript-library-8.64-6.2.1.x86_64 from the 11.2-updates repo
But I get the same problem with B/W printing.
If you think it's essential, I could try compiling a newer ghostscript. (I suspect dependencies will break if I try installing older RPM(s).)

nmap shows that the printer has the jetdirect port available (I think):
9100/tcp filtered jetdirect

I did do "Test Connection" in the YAST Printer utility while adding the printer, and it reported the connection to be OK.
I tried using regular LPD instead. The Connection Test in YAST reported "Test OK", but I still get somewhat similar log output, or at least similar delay/timeout (cups error_log).

Not sure where to go/what to try next ...
I did get the printer working using SpliX, but then just 600x600 dpi.

The weird thing, is that I have to power off/on the printer everytime I try to print using the foo2zjs driver. The printer stops responding ... (This might be the reason LPD failed.)

There is no crisis, as I got printing working, but it would be interesting to figure out what the problem is, and maybe I could get full dpi and stuff working. That would be nice. :)

Ubuntu 9.10 Beta - Ghostscript 8.70. [solved] (3 replies)

This release of Ubuntu uses Ghostscript 8.70. Upgrading to it today, and rebuilding foo2zjs for foo2qpdl, I get the old symptoms of not colour printing. Not being technical in the right areas I don't know where to look for helpful logs.

I have a possibly related problem: I can't print at all after installing foo2zjs on Arch. I had to modify the makefile slightly (user: root, group: lp), but installation thereafter went without errors. I also ./webgot the 6110 colour profile, restarted cups manually, then plugged the printer in and added it via the web interface.

Now, whatever I try to print, the printer warms up and then does nothing. Looking at /var/log/cups/error_log, the only clear error I can find is complaints about ~/.ghostscript/cache/gs_cache missing.

The directory didn't exist, so I created it. Still no change: warms up, then stops. Last lines of log:

Hi.
I'm a neophyte about Linux and I wasn't able to install foo2qpdl driver on Acer Aspire One in order to use my Xerox 6110 printer.
I didn't find a specific procedure available for O.S. Linpus.
I know that it's similar to Fedora 8 but not equal.
According to INSTALL file I have modified where was possible the installed packages applying some RPM files found on the Net.
Despite my efforts it doesn't work as I get errors during the installation.
Can anyone help me ?

Hello,

With Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 8.10 my xerox 6110N have a color map very dark. I've installed your driver and now, with file icm 6110, is improved the quality but the image printed is incorrect: the simil color is printed as a unic color more dark.

For render the image more realistic with The Gimp i apply a new layer fill with whith color and 85% of alpha channel. This layer is positioned on the top of the list layer.

I've a problem with xerox 6110: the colour is so view a image with a screen set to 256 colours.
Another if i print a image 6"x4" more then 300dpi the job in the printer status is deleted but the printer not respond.
I've follow all istruction for Ubuntu (8.04 and 8.10) and i've noted a significant improvement but it's not ok.
what can i try?

Just a note as a newbie who has just been given a Phaser 6110MFP.

With foomatic and foo2qpdl and using CUPS printer test pages, the output
is a little too large for the printing area. So presumably the foomatic ppd has the printing area set too large.

Using the ph6110.ppd from the Xerox package and the filter rastertosamsungpcl
gave significantly better quality and geometry (bounds).

The tests above were using gs-esp version 8.15.3. I don't know whether the quality
issue is related to that version of gs. I haven't tried anything else as yet.

ph6110.ppd has no copyright mentioned in the file itself and is freely available
from the Xerox site, so perhaps it is possible to take the imaging area from there.

I have istalled foo2qpdl driver on my solaris 10 08/07 box. I've done everything according to INSTALL file but it doesn't installed properly. So i have to gzip and copy .ppd file to /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/Xerox/ where system could find it. Then i registred it in ppdcache: added record to /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/ppdcache

Xerox:Xerox Phaser 6110MFP:Foomatic/phaser6110 (recommended):/usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/Xerox/Xerox-Phaser-6110.ppd.gz

Using printmng i've added my network-attached printer to my system. lpadmin command for this is

it works but there is some problems with page formating. First page is printed normally, but others - with no space before or even with lost few first lines =(
Is there any ideas what i have done wrong?

I install the printer following the prescription. an all things going fine till I start Printerdrake.
Then the following line apears:
ERROR: Printer 'Xerox-Phaser_6110' not found!
Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_window_realize_icon: assertion `info->icon_pixmap == NULL' failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/mygtk2.pm line 868.

I don't know what is rong.
I setup up the system new from scratch with mandriva Spring 2007 and dthis ist the first Soft - and hardware I ad

I've received a phaser 6110N yesterday.
I was really kinda disappointed that Xerox says they do support linux, whereas they actually only support 32bit Suse and Redhat (and only "older" versions).
Allthough they're support told me that would change as they realize more people use linux nowadays...

Anyway, your driver seems to work ok :-)....thnx a lot!

It just doesn't print the colors exactly as they actually look like.
The printed colors are a lot darker...
I tried to print the following page just for testing:

My settings are:
1200x1200dpi, maximum quality, phaser6110 color profile

To the topic... I have just made a comparison between two versions of ghostscript.
The one from ghostscript.com (8.57 and 8.54) and the cups one http://www.cups.org/espgs/ (8.15.3).
Allthough the colors are lighter than with cups's gs (still far from as they should be), the output looks extremely ugly. Much noise, no clean black/grey, blurry + pixelized.

The output using cups's ghostscript looks nearly perfect. The colors are darker than with the other GS, but they are clean. Black and grey are completely! noise-free.

I guess if you would tune the color profiles some more, you could get the colors lighter ?

Colour quality problems with Phaser 6110 (6 replies)

Hi,

i've bought a Phaser 6110 and planned to have it connected to my Ubuntu box allowing my wife to print to it from her Intel MacPro & my daughter from her XP machine.

Following the install on Ubuntu using the supplied driver the quality of print was extremely poor so I tried changing to foo2zjz. Though this gave more options the quality did not change.

The printer is now connected by USB to my wife's Mac and the print quality is fine. I've added the printer to my Ubuntu Cups using the foo2zjs driver and get the following:

1) If I print a page from Ubuntu which is mixed colour/black with the printer set to monochrome in the Ubuntu CUPS then all is well.

2) If I then change the printer to colour in CUPS and reprint the same page the black text is extremely poorly defined and blurry. However other colour text on the same page (e.g. blue) is much sharper (though I'm not 100% sure its as sharp as it should be!)

3) Printing a similar page from the mac is no problem in either monochrome or colour.

4) Printing from an X11 app on the Mac also results in the blurred text syndrome!

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this greatly appreciated!
