foo2qpdl driver won't stop printing (2 replies)

I've been using this driver for a long time and all of a sudden the printer won't stop printing as I have to kill the switch. The test page prints okay from the cups web interface but from an application it won't stop. The apps I used were djview4 and OO. I know it's the driver as I switched to the Samsung CLP-300 driver and my problem went away in printing from the two apps. I uninstalled the package from 10.04 and compiled from the latest tarball (8/7/10) and this didn't fix the problem. I like the foo2qpdl better since the text quality is much better.

Hi, I still am confused on how to install this driver on my SLED11 OS. My printer is also a CLP-300.

I do not understand the commands to install (do I use the Gnome Terminal?) so I manually copied the PPD file into my SLED11. But then, when I try to print, it looks for foo2qpdl-wrapper tool of which I have now idea how to install. Can you help?

A5 Landscape prints random noise (4 replies)

Hello all

Just tried to print landscape a5 from ubuntu 9.04 and got a line of noise. So I've followed the instruction to upgrade to foo2zjs which all seemed to go well (how can I test I'm using this one and not the packaged one?)

But still I just get random noise when I print to a5 landscape (a5 portrait is fine)

Any ideas?

CLP-300 No Color Printing [Gentoo; gs 8.64 is TOAST!] (2 replies)

I've got a CLP300. I Installed a pretty new system (Gentoo); I installed foo2zjs as described on the HP.

However: I got no color at all. If I select "Color" in the Printer Settings of the CUPS 1.3.5 Web-Frontend nothing is printed. But CUPS does not complain either. It's just silence and the Job is stated as "successfully completed".

Monochrome works, but the quality is worse. I can't use it.

I inserted new toner cartridges (color and BW), but this didn't change a thing. Monochrome quality is still pure pain.

Printer works somehow on Windows XP on the very same machine (still quality is very, very, very bad).

I'm thinking to buy a new one and put Samsung CLP300 to trash. Maybe a HP?

Anyone got a hint for the Samsung?

Page offset failure on OpenSuse 11.0 (1 reply)

Hello,
I am using OpenSuse 11.0 after using version 10.2.
After changing OpenSuse version the CLP-300 has an offset of round about ½ an inch (15 mm). The area above is lost completely. I'm using the „Samsung CLP-300 Foomatic/foo2qpdl (recommended)“ diver and followed the installation instructions on the front page.
It worked fine on the 10.2 version of this system.
Has anyone an idea to fix this problem for my actual system installation?
The same problem is described in the article on the page http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/samsung-clp-300-schneidet-seitenkopf-ab/ (maybe you are able to read this) for the systems OS X Leopard and Windows Vista.
By the way: Sometimes I reconfigured the printer options, the driver worked, but only for the first site of the next printing job and only in some cases I can not define further. After this single page the old problem occured again.

Hi,
I tried the unified driver from samsung and the colors were beautiful, but the texts are unacceptable. So I installed your driver and the texts are perfect now! But the colors are very dark. Is there any way to get them a little bit lighter?

btw: I tried the samsung driver on windows - there the colors AND texts are perfect. Why not on linux?

Hi,
After installing the driver, it works beautiful in my Samsung CLP-300 (Black and Color).

However, when I tried to do a 'custom size' test, as per the INSTALL file, with these commands:

lpr -P CLP-300-BW -o PageSize=Custom.4x6in ./testpage.ps
lpr -P CLP-300-Color -o PageSize=Custom.4x6in ./testpage.ps

In the BW (Black) I get the 'custom size' but is only smudges, nothing readable. The color (using either CLP-300 or CLP-600 color correction) does not print anything at all. Not even the lights blink.

well, CLP300N installed in my opensuse 10.3, using cups and ipp connection.
usb simply doesn't work for me, but that's not the point.

i have some documents, in pdf, for which some pages simply don't print. my (missing) knowledge doesn't let me understand why.

one of the page has a table, but no big deal. it's like any other word table, just now in pdf. the other page has colors but nothing special on it that would restrict its printing.

the cups error log says something like this:

do you have any idea about what it could be, or is it something to do with cups?

Mac files, when printed to CUPS server, vanish with no error message [Debian unstable is not supported] (2 replies)

I've just installed foo2qpdl for my CLP-300, and it's far superior to the Samsung drivers. The test printouts are crisp and clear.

I can print from the local server to my local server.

However, for some unknown reason my Mac (which can print without problems to a different CUPS server connected to a Canon inkjet) seems to be having trouble with this new server. The file from the Mac reaches the CUPS server but then stops on PostScript errors (as seen in the log file). I had this same problem with the Samsung unified drivers and then switched to foo2*, but the problem persists.

Furthermore, when there's an error on foo2*, the error does not result in a "stopped" job (as it did with the unified drivers and with splix). The job simply vanishes.

The log file informative and it seems that foo2qpdl-wrapper makes a pretty valiant effort to print the file. I won't include the entire file -- if someone needs it I can post it on postbin -- but it starts with:

And in fact CUPS lists this file, which never reached the printer, as having printed successfully.

I've tried running the file in /var/spool/cups through gs, using the options as given in the debug file, and it (eventually) segfaults!

I'm using Debian unstable, but even if I load Debian stable gs-eps I get the same problem.

To say the least this is quite puzzling. Does anyone have a solution to propose?

Hi,
Based on what I read, the foo2zjs sits between postscript and the actual printer. Based on this diagram:

So my thought was, when I share this printer, I only have to tell (in the other end) that this is a postscript printer. However, that didn't work.

My idea was that I only needed to install the driver in my printer server and then the PCs getting to the shared printer will use just a generic postscript driver.

But that didn't happen. I had to install foo2zjs on each computer that wanted to print. If I used a generic postscript driver, it will get to the printer, because the lights were flashing, but it'll never finish printing. The lights just keep on flashing.

So now I just upgraded to the new Ubuntu all PCs and I'm about to start the printer setup again (about 4 computers....I know it's not that 'hard' to install it, but it will simplify, when doing upgrades to the driver, as well as better control of what's installed on each PC). It's there a way to do what I was thinking? Share the printer as a postscript and have the driver only installed in the printer server? Printer server runs Ubuntu and driver works great.

That will really simplify my setup. It actually makes sense too. Even Windows computer would be able to print to it (There are drivers of "Mac" printers that are postscript included with Windows that will work out of the box. I know because I created a pseudo printer to make PDFs in the past and it worked).

Did I miss something? If you guys can help, I'll really appreciate it.

Generally, the CLP-300 is working on my Mepis6.5.02 system.
Two issues though:

1. when printing a web page from Firefox, a series of small black dots and dashes are printed along the top and/or bottom of the page.
2. I can't print out of the gimp. I can choose the CLP-300, and the green activity light on the printer flashes, but after 5 minutes, still no printing.

Any help with either of these problems appreciated.

I'm running Mepis 6.5.02, dased on Ubuntu Dapper.
cups version 1.2.2

I installed the driver as per instructions, added the printer with the kde printer control center - the CLP-300 was not a choice before install ing the driver, so it looks like that part went ok. Test page prints, but only in monochrome.

cups will not accept any changes to the printer setup, it asks for a username and password, it won't accept root or user names/passwords.
Trying to print a test page from cups results in:

Error:Quota limit reached.

I installed gnome-cups-manager, and all its dependencies, it runs ok, allows me to change from monochrome to color, but still prints a monochrome test page.

Any help with this appreciated, thanks.

The printer driver works for the CLP-300 on my Suse 10.2 /64bit with ghostscript 8.15-3. However, the color wheel at the test page does not look very perfect.
Whithin the settings I can choose to use ICM correction or not. I did not find a switch to use the "CRD basd method". This method is mentioned at http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com. Is it really implemented and how I can activate it?

Inability to pass install-test and other issues (OS X 10.4.10) (3 replies)

Having bought a colour laser printer - the CLP-300N - which costs less than its consumables. I thought I would set it up to work with an Intel MacMini, with Ubuntu and Suse to follow on other architectures.

Install-test cannot find foomatic-rip. I am no wiser after reading the relevant scripts. On the Mac foomatic -rip goes in /usr/local/bin. I tried there and /usr/bin, with a symlink to /usr/libexec/cups/filter. No luck.

So I side-stepped install-test, ran the other install scripts, and ended up with an installation that could be configured via Mac Printer Setup.app .

This does not print. The Samsung OEM PPD does, when reintroduced and reconfigured. cupsd was restarted appropriately.

1. A suggestion about the foomatic-rip issue would help
2. Do I need to load firmware ? la HP printers?
3. If so, where do I find such firmware for the CLP-300 series?

Error when installing [Puppy linux ] (3 replies)

I am trying to install this driver onto a Puppy Linux system.

Cups is installed, a networked HP5 works fine.

When trying to "make install" i get "invalid user 'lp', from reading another post on the puppy forum i changed lp to lpr in the makefile, still no success.

I realise that useradd lp will cure this problem, but suspect i musnt be installing as lp, but as some other user, can anyone suggest what to try ?

Hi Rick,

You're my hero today. I got this new printer CLP-300N and could not make any
of the manufacturer suppied drivers work with CUPS on my FreeBSD box. Then
luckily I found your web site and the foo2qpl driver and after a little work
managed to make it work under FreeBSD. Thank you very much, good stuff!

Installed as per directions on Debian Sid/Unstable. Using ghostscript-gpl (8.53, I think). Selecting monochrome gives nice sharp text. Selecting color gives text that is fuzzy around the edges. Pictures look GREAT, not photo quality, but really quite good! Beats the pants of the epson 880 I junked. Thanks so much. Any idea why text gets fuzzy when printing in color?

I use foo2qpdl driver with a CLP-300N under Fedora Core 6 and it works great... when I use either the monochrome queue or the color one.
Thanks for the great work !

But I noticed that when I print documents under OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 using verdana police for example, the last "legs" of the "m", "n" are a bit truncated. In fact, they are more slim than they should.

Same thing if I print the pdf version of my odt document.

However, I'm not sure it comes from the driver because caracters are well printed at same size with others fonts (utopia, time new roman, bistream,...).

Did someone ever see this kind of problem ?
How can I resolve it ?
