I need to use a public access computer with Windows and Internet Explorer to obtain foo2zjs (already downloaded) and extra files (getweb P1006) for my Linux without Internet. I have seen what getweb and its subsidiaries do. I don't have permission to visit the firmware directory in http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com. Is there an easy way for me to use a (rather restricted) public Windows IE to fetch what I need?

Even though hplip worked for me, I used your driver in preference - I like what you are doing. Am new to Lx, and the explanation on your page http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/ took me quite a while to get my head around. In fact it took me a bit to realize that I had 2 choices: either install via hplip or install via the procedures on your page. the real problem was that I had no 'context' for this issue.

A small donation by way of thanks. Made by google checkout - the 1st time I have tried it so let me know if it does not work.

CUPS jobs get stuck with Ubuntu 8.04 & HP P1006 (2 replies)

Hi,

Using Ubuntu 8.04, it looks like I get some sort of error every time I print a document, which causes CUPS to decide not to finish the job. Thus, the job gets stuck (and re-prints every time I restart CUPS).

The printout actually seems to work OK. I just get a mysterious error message in the UI, and stuck jobs. The stuck jobs prevent new jobs from being submitted.

This happens using the foo2zjs + HP LaserJet P1006 driver. It seemed to work with Ubuntu 7.10.

I can't really diagnose the type of error any better, since CUPS is such a horrific pile of shit. I tried looking in the various cups log files, but there was no useful data of any kind in there. Plus, every time I try to use the CUPS webui, it feels like someone punched me in the face.

Any ideas? I'm guessing that the P1006 driver is crashing / returning an error in some mysterious way here.

I have just bought the HP Laserjet M1120n MFP and was afraid that for Linux it would prove to be dead in the water after all.

After Ubuntu 7.10 already proved capable of printing (both USB and network) I installed foo2xqx on my regular Slackware 12.0 distro.

It works like a charm (printing at least, I'll figure out if I can use the scanner later).

"LIFE SAFER",
I have donated.

Laserjet P1000 / P1500 series? (5 replies)

Hello, has anyone had luck with these new compact laser printers from HP, the P1006 in particular? I haven't unearthed much technical data, save that that the P1000 and P1500 series all seem to use the same drivers, and they also load their firmware from the host computer.

Using Kubuntu Gutsy, and have removed the version of foo2zjs that Ubuntu provides and installed a fresh copy per the instructions here, also grabbed the various HP firmwares in hopes I'd find a similar-enough model (doesn't work). It does work great with Mac OS X 10.3, even as a shared network printer hanging off my Airport Extreme base station, and it's visible at 192.168.1.1:9100.

As a USB printer, I get:

$ sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0
GET_DEVICE_ID string:
MFG:Hewlett-Packard;MDL:HP LaserJet P1006;CMD:ACL;CLS:PRINTER;DES:HP LaserJet P1006;

I have tried using the Laserjet 1000 and 1005 drivers, but without success.

On page http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/ the instruction for downloading says:

$ wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz

which downloads foo2zjs and not foo2xqx! I tried to make the obvious replacements but it did not work.

How do I download foo2xqx?
