I just recently (re)installed the foo2zjs printer driver for my HP LaserJet 1000 per your instructions on the website, and support for the HP 1000 is broken right now. Everything goes as it should, including the hotplug firmware, but when I go to configure my printer in CUPS there is no option for the 1000. I think the first printer listed is the 1020 and on up. It selects 1020 by default, but that driver doesn't work (nor does any of the others I tried). I know it used to have the 1000 listed, as I have installed the package from your website probably 20 times (all for the same printer; I keep experimenting and breaking my operating systems). The last time I installed was in May some time, so there must have been a change since then. I looked at the changelogs and am guessing it may have been the 2010-05-28 change. I finally went back to the Debian Lenny repositories and got the foo2zjs.deb from there. It does have the 1000 listed, and that package is working for me right now.

I'm having a problem with Network Printing to my HP1000.

The printer is direct connected to an Ubuntu 8.04 machine and local prints work fine however if I try to print via the network the print arrives and can be "seen" as printing via the software queues, but nothing ever comes out the printer.

I've been digging at this for a while and can't wrap my head around where the problem may be.

Today I paused the printer and took a look at the prints residing in /var/spool/cups

When I do a file command on the two prints I come up with the local print being identified as
Postscript document text conforming at level 3.0

However the network print comes out as Zenographics ZjStream printer data (big-endian)

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas where I should look next.

Tks

Hello Everyone,

I've been searching hi and low on google but I could not find out why my printer is not printing.

I have installed the foo2zjs driver from the site several times and it still does not print.

The printer does accept the firmware and from windows in virtualbox I can print but not from my Kubuntu 8.04. The driver used to work in 7.10 but has never worked since I have upgraded to 8.04.

I am not sure what logs I should post here but I was thinking that I might have a CUPS configuration problem?

If somebody could help, it would be extremely appreciated.

Just let me know what information to post and I will do just that, post it.

Thanks in advance.

I just installed the HP LaserJet 1000 in Mandriva 2008.1. PrinterDrake is too automated to set this printer up correctly, though, as it does not seem to allow the user to choose a driver. It automatically installs the driver packaged by Mandriva, downloading it if it is not already on one's system, and the printer does not immediately work using this driver. Maybe with some tweaking one could manage. My advice, however, is to use the printer installation tool provided by the desktop environment, KDE in my case, although the Gnome printer installer likely works as well. KDE's tool allows the user to choose which driver to install, so one can choose the driver downloaded from the foo2zjs site and manually compiled. The printer works immediately upon being set up to use this driver.

With the previous macosx version, I used the Zenographics driver which somehow managed to load the firmware automatically.
How can I do the same auto-loading with Leopard?
In the worst case, maybe it would be sufficient to prepend the firmware to each and every job?

I have been attempting to get my HP Laserjet 1000 printer working with a new installation of OpenBSD4.1 . So far I'm ready to throw the computer out of the window.

I have tried to follow the installation instructions. One deviation is that there is not a hotplug port on OpenBSD. I was able to download and unpack the driver you provide, as well as getweb -ing the firmware. When I try to cat the firmware to the USB port, I can a std in / out error.:

$ cat sihp1000.dl > /dev/ulpt0
$ sudo cat sihp1000.dl > /dev/ulpt0
Password:

I have a snip of the error log here, if I could put it as an attachment I would but I don't see a way to do that. In the interest of getting you as much info as possible, I'm going to put it here:
It looks like it may be permissions on the usb device. I tried to add read rights to the others as you see here:

$ sudo chmod u+r /dev/ulpt0
$ ls -la /dev/ulpt0
crw-rw---- 1 root wheel 64, 0 Oct 12 18:37 /dev/ulpt0
$ sudo chmod o+r /dev/ulpt0
$ ls -la /dev/ulpt0
$ ls -la /dev/ulpt0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root wheel 64, 0 Oct 12 18:37 /dev/ulpt0
$

any thoughts here?

I appreciate any help possible!

Thanks,

I am using Linux 8.0 dual booted with Windows XP :( and I have managed to load FOO2ZJS OK and now have HP1000 as an option in the driver list in the Linux printer GUI, but I can still not get anything to print. I have tried many different printer configurations, but the HP1000 still just sits there - no printing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had this machine working fine with CUPS, then it stopped suddenly after an update.

To fix, I followed the default procedure on the foo2zjs site. It works perfectly with that driver.

Thanks,

Installing hp LaserJet 1000 on my MSS (4 replies)

I am a pretty quick learner, but still not very fluent in Linux.

I purchased a Maxtor Shared Storage Plus (MSS), and have installed the OpenMSS firmware, which basically gives me Telnet/SSH access to the Linux machine inside (http://www.openmss.org)

The box itself doesn't compile anything, but a friendly guy on the OpenMSS forum has compiled the driver for me (our conversation is at http://www.openmss.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2514#2514). I've also read the posts in as much depth as I can at another forum (http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_1000), which went into pretty good depth but unfortunately wasn't too useful for my MSS.

So I've extracted the tarball to my /opt/etc directory, and can plug the printer into one of the USB ports at the back of the MSS. But from there I don't know what to do.

I can't run a make command (but I'm assuming the guy at the forum did all that, so I shouldn't need to). He has also downloaded the firmware for my LaserJet 1000 (he called it sihp1000.img and put it in the foo2zjs directory for me)

Do you have any suggestions for how I would install the printer and the firmware hotplug from here? I hope I'm not asking for too much, but actual verbatim commands that I can use in SSH would be the most helpful.

Thanks very much

I am using this driver for my printer and when I print any texts it prints fine(normaly), but when I try to print some color or grayscale image on printed images I see some transision between darker and lighter color or area. Look at this:
Picture: http://www.freewebtown.com/lilisoft/picture.jpg ,
Printed Picture: http://www.freewebtown.com/lilisoft/printed.jpg
(look at the area around the nose).
I am using ghostscrip : GPL Ghostscript 8.54 (2006-05-17) , and the latest foo2zjs driver from this site (downloaded on dec,9 2006.).

It is interested that when I was using foo2zjs 2 years ago on SuSE with Ghostscript version, I think 7.07, printing picture works great...
Now I am using Gentoo.
