I had this foo2hp printer working until I upgraded my HD and the printing doesn't work anymore. At least I think that's when it stopped working. Anyhow, foo2hp isn't in the driver list anymore. Went to try to reinstall it, (I'm not very familiar with the terminal BTW) When I went to do the CPPFLAGS thing in terminal, I got this error:

and googling I learned to "remake" the database somehow, and then did this technique:

Nicholas-Macbook:~ nicholas$ locate bin/gcc

and got this:
/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2
/usr/X11/bin/gccmakedep
but when I do this:

Nicholas-Macbook:~ nicholas$ CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/local/lib" ./configure --prefix=/usr

I get this:

-bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Which tree should I bark up?

Hello. First of all, thank you for your work.

On Ubuntu 10.04, with your foo2zjs, following your directions (i uninstalled and removed foo2zjs that came with Ubuntu) and with Ghostscript 8.71 :

- Printing with color at 600x1200dpi fails at all times. The printer starts but then stops and the error lights start blinking.
- There is no problem when printing 600x1200 dpi monochrome.
- The other configuration combinations look ok.

from the log:

Nothing happens until i press the ONLINE button on the printer, and then:
the existing printer's USB cable is plugged into LPT1 on the print-server and configured as an LPR/LPD device with this URI: lpd://192.168.1.100/l1 - it works fine.

now i'm trying to setup the 1600W with the USB plugged into LPT2 in the same manner, and i use this URI: lpd://192.168.1.100/l2 - but i get nada. the printer WORKS FINE when connected directly via USB to this linux machine.
I know it's the driver as I switched to the Samsung CLP-300 driver and my problem went away in printing from the two apps. I uninstalled the package from 10.04 and compiled from the latest tarball (8/7/10) and this didn't fix the problem. I like the foo2qpdl better since the text quality is much better.

Hi,

I'm checking the source and at around line 832 in foo2qpdl.c:
...
switch (Model)
{
case MODEL_CLP620:
fprintf(ofp, "@PJL SET RESOLUTION=600\r\n");
fprintf(ofp, "@PJL SET BITSPERPIXEL=2\r\n");
break;
}
...

I suppose the above "@PJL SET RESOLUTION=600" job control says that resolution is fixed at 600dpi, but in the corresponding Samsung-CLP-620.ppd file supports three resolutions: 1200x600dpi, 600x600dpi and 1200x1200dpi. Is this consistent when selecting other resolutions?

Also, "@PJL SET BITSPERPIXEL=2", imply that this printer can process 2 bit-per-pixel of each color plane? Is this correct?

I just recently (re)installed the foo2zjs printer driver for my HP LaserJet 1000 per your instructions on the website, and support for the HP 1000 is broken right now. Everything goes as it should, including the hotplug firmware, but when I go to configure my printer in CUPS there is no option for the 1000. I think the first printer listed is the 1020 and on up. It selects 1020 by default, but that driver doesn't work (nor does any of the others I tried). I know it used to have the 1000 listed, as I have installed the package from your website probably 20 times (all for the same printer; I keep experimenting and breaking my operating systems). The last time I installed was in May some time, so there must have been a change since then. I looked at the changelogs and am guessing it may have been the 2010-05-28 change. I finally went back to the Debian Lenny repositories and got the foo2zjs.deb from there. It does have the 1000 listed, and that package is working for me right now.

Some days ago, I sent you a patch that implements a command filter for the 1690MF so that CUPS also gets the toner status (% CMYK, Fuser, etc.).
Since I didn't get any response, I just wanted to ask whether you got it or whether I should send it again (which email?).

This is used for example in GNOME's printer properties dialogs, where the supplies status is nicely shown to the user...

I have no idea if other printer use the same PJL command (@PJL INFO DSTATUS) to query the supplies status, so I only added it to the ppd of the 1690MF so far.
While things are fine (thanks!), the 620 has the same trouble as has been reported for the 610 in http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?55,1432

The automatic duplexer is not working. It only prints one side on the first sheet (although it is pulling the paper into the duplexer unit), then complains that the MP tray is empty. If I insert paper in the MP tray, it will print the second page. (Both the printer itself and the printing options specify tray 1 (only) as paper source)...

Are the respective fixes for the 610 also in the ppd for the 620? If not, could they be taken over 1:1? My problem is that I cannot supply a windows print to file, as I don't have a windows machine here.....

Cheers,

I have a Konica Minolte 1690MF-d multifunction printer/fax/scanner. Printing in color works (over the network, using either the 1690 ICM or no icm makes no difference), but the printout has too little magenta in it (i.e. a light pink area comes out as light yellow).
Red areas come out as red, so it's not a toner problem. Also, color-copying preserves the exact colors. Just printing in color uses way too little magenta.

Is there any way to fix the colors?

Thanks,

Hey, just a quick thanks for the good work. I needed to use a Magicolor 2300DL on my company's network, and now am able to print.

BTW, I was not smart enough to read your install.osx file first, so I figured it out myself. I used Darwinports for ghostscript and got the DMG for Foomatic-RIP from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomatic.

Compile went flawlessly. Used CUPS to install and configure. The only bump I hit was that MS PowerPoint ignored the CUPS printing options (e.g. color). Fixed that by changing the options in PowerPoint's print options.
Thanks a bunch.

first off, thanks a lot for the implementation!

I yet do have a very annoying problem; my printers setup is equipped with an additonal 2nd paper tray. On printing I am able to select this tray but the printer never actually uses it!

Let me depict it:

The printer is as follows

---
| Manual feed
---
| Paper tray (original)
---
| Second paper tray (optional)
---

I can print to the manual freed and the optional second paper tray, if I however
want to use the Paper tray (original) now, it does not work! I can select it, but the printer seems to ignore the selection!

What to do??

Thx an lot!

I have a p1005, printing under cups, which is printing faintly after a replacement cartridge. Is there any way to compensate by adding more saturation to the driver?
Perhaps a ghostscript option? About the only thing I can fiddle in cups is resolution, and it doesn't print on low res.
Thank you for writing foo2zjs which I am using successfully on an HP LaserJet Pro P1102W printer.

So my 1600 has been set up and printing fine from my OSX laptop to the shared HP 1600 on my XP machine for six months now.

I want to get rid of the XP machine, so I purchased an airport express to act as the print server. My laptop can see the printer no problem, but when I try to install it (using System Preferences or CUPS), the HP color laserjet 1600 foomatic/foo2hp driver is NOT among the driver choices. The strange thing is that both my current B&W and Color printers set up and working over the XP machine state that this is the driver being used.

To throw a wrench in, I must confess I had a prior version of the foomatic driver installed before adding the updated color version six months ago. I didn't uninstall the prior ones, and they had the same name, but I got everything working anyway as long as I found the correct one of the two. When I set this up six months ago I was forced to guess which driver was the new updated one because they both had the same name. So there used to be two drivers with this name in the list, but now there are none.

Help with CLP-610ND (SPL-C) [ubuntu 10.04; solved] (8 replies)

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. Before the upgrade, my Samsung CLP610-ND was working great. (It was really a re-install, not an upgrade, hence my printers were not migrated forward)

I believe I initially followed: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341621
to get it to work.

However, after the upgrade, that process does not work entirely. Some things print okay, but other don't. My main problem is that when attempting to print envelopes from OpenOffice, I get the
SPL-C Error - Including Corrupted Header Data
POSITION: 0x0 (0)
SYSTEM: src/xl_image
LINE: 811
VERSION: SPL-C 5.35 11-20-2007

I tried to use foo2qdpl, but that doesn't seem to help.

One oddity is that in the printer-config GUI, I cannot select CLP-610ND as an option. The closest thing I have is CLP-610. However, I've seen other people post on here screenshots with CLP-610ND listed as an option on their systems.

Last note - the printer is connected via network - not via USB. (If that matters).

Anything I can try?

Need suggestion for small office print server (1 reply)

This is likely way off topic. I am a Linux newbie. I have a 2300DL that I would like to share between 4 people in a small office but I would like to capture a log of date and pages printed by IP address so that the supply costs can be more fairly divided. I was hoping I could use an old emachine I own that is too slow to run XP on and load it with a Linux image serving as a print server and somehow capture this data. Can anyone suggest where to get started? Buying a new computer solely for a print server for 4 people is beyond budget. Thank you!!!!!
